A...... Run

OK so it seems that every deployment there is something that happens that I feel I need to write about. This event happened today, night, whatever it is now. Whether it is a natural occurrence, sunset, sun rise, or hearing some of the local nationals sing their songs as I look out into the snow covered mountain tops. It might even be sitting on top of a building watching enemy mortar rounds miss terribly. It is those out of body experiences. There is always something.
This deployment has not been very exciting. It has been filled with a lot of gym time and endless hours of day dreaming. Well tonight I decided that I was not going to do my run on a tread mill and took it to the dirt. I just ran ten miles through an A...... desert alone, watching the sun rise. Talk about out of body experience. A ten mile run alone is enough to make you feel a little funny at the end, but after what I experienced today, I think I love running. The run started out on the inside of two wires for the first five miles and then took a turn out of one. This left the second half of the run with only one fence and a lot closer to nature. After about the first quarter mile outside the fence I noticed a little fox running along behind me. While a little startled at first, it was 0445 and still almost pitch black, I watch the little fellow and soon felt no threat so I continued to run. Well that little fucker decided to run that entire five miles with me. At first he was behind, and then he would come along next to me, take the lead and fall back, over and over. Keeping his distance of course, but he was getting close enough to tell that he was definitely a little fox. At the seven and a half mile the sun started to rise and of course I was lucky enough to be running towards it. Some very nice pastel colors, blue, pink, orange, you know it’s a sun rise.
The last mile was really hurting my knees so I stopped paying attention to the little fox, but he left me somewhere around that time. As I sit here I can already tell my legs are not going to be happy with me, but who can honestly say that they ran ten miles through an A...... desert…Much less with a fox with them.
Well I was pretty excited about this, but I need to get some sleep now…I have a long couple days ahead of me. At least that run is out of the way.
